If You’re 40+ Read This Exercise / Fitness Book
Even if you aren’t 40 yet, read this exercise and fitness book. Having good health and mobility is intentional and requires you to actually “Do Something”. This book is in many ways “ground breaking”. I’ve read a lot of fitness magazines and some other books regarding exercise, stretching, etc. But what makes this book exceptional is all this information is presented in a single book, well illustrated, written in simple, straight forward language. And the information is “spot on” – with one goal – helping you stay healthy, fit, mobile. Now it won’t do a thing for you if you ignore the advice given or use the book under your living room flower pot. But if you read it (study it?) and incorporate it into a daily/weekly/monthly fitness plan – you are going to be “ahead” health-wise than a whole bunch of other people in your age group. What kind of life do you want to lead… healthy and active… or riding around on some electric chair grocery shopping because you didn’t take care of yourself as you aged?

Easy to follow all important facts.
This is brilliant. All exercises are pictured. Love Dr Vonda Wright she’s so knowledgeable and gets it. It’s hard but do and feel better afterwards.

Everything you need to know, all in one book!
I also bought the first addition, so I wasn’t sure if I might be wasting time and money on the second addition. But, turned out better than expected. This new addition includes all the latest research in nutrition, which is considerable, as well as, some new exercises and stretches. It’s like Vonda knew exactly what I needed an update on to keep my fitness program engaged. I’m 66, by the way, running 2 miles every other day, and looking forward to the third addition!

Very good home-based exercise program …. book is a little repetitive
Overall, a decent book and good choice for those over 40 (or younger) who want to start an exercise program or improve on their current regime. The focus on the necessity of including aerobic activity, strength training, flexibility, and balance is good, as too often the latter two categories are overlooked. But it seems like much of the book is aimed at those who need to be convinced of the importance of exercising – it that’s you, there’s a good overview of the many major benefits of exercise beyond increased strength and endurance. The book is also good in that the exercises included don’t require going to a gym, but can be done with either no equipment or some relatively inexpensive home equipment (exercise bands/tubes, dumbbells or kettle balls). It’s worth getting the 2nd edition, which has additional exercises and routines not included in the 1st edition. But the text seemed repetitious, with the same points repeated in different chapters – if you’re already aware of why you need to exercise and what constitutes a healthy diet, much of this will be old news. Some flexibility stretches were a concern – the neck roll section seems to suggest movements that a physical therapist specifically advised against doing in a neck class. And because the author is a runner, there are quite a few references to running. For women who do use a gym for strength training, I preferred Holly Perkin’s book, “Lift to Get Lean”, which gave very detailed instructions, excellent photos and different programs to develop strength, based on your current level of fitness and ease of putting on muscle. For specific information on diet and other factors influencing overall health and longevity, and avoiding Alzheimer’s and dementia, Dr. John Day’s excellent book “The Longevity Plan: Seven Life-Transforming Lessons from Ancient China” is a must-read for anyone who wants to maintain their health and vitality as they age, even into their 10th decade! But “Fitness after Forty” is a good start…and it’s never too late.

Smart & Safe Way to Start Moving Again!
I loved her book “Fitness After Forty”. This new new one is not just the old one with a new title, Dr Vonda spent time updating it with all new info & exercises, She even confessed she’s human & gained a few lbs writing her book. Then told us how she slowly lost the weight! She’s just like the rest of us 🙂 Note: I didnt buy this book because it was a “diet” book, I bought it after a knee injury, to supplement my Physical Therapy.

    Nothing I don’t already know
Full disclosure, I’m a certified group fitness instructor. But this book didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. On top if that, some of the pictures of the author modeling certain exercises demonstrate poor form. I’m also not sold on her workout plan. This book wasn’t what I was looking for. I’d recommend it to someone who is new to exercise and wants to know more about its benefits, but not for anyone who already knows something about fitness.
