    Doesn’t work
Waste of money. Won’t connect to compatible car even after a software update. Never saw the autosky interface to connect to YouTube or Netflix, just a continuous loop going back to CarPlay interface. Sending back for a refund stat!

Some setup pains, but the end result was worth it.
So, besides the whole update process, this thing is pretty cool. Upon receiving it, I felt that it would be best to update it. I connected it to power, then connected to the Wi-Fi on the device with my Android phone and went to the web interface at 192.168.2.1. This loaded but just kept searching with a red button below saying, “Switch P2P”. Upon tapping that button, it says there’s an update available but suddenly disconnects and fails. I tried this on 2 different Android phones with the same issue. Ultimately, the fix was to plug the dongle into my PC for power and connect my PC Wi-Fi to the dongle and access the web interface. Note that my PC also has a wired connection, so it maintains Internet while connected to the CarPlay’s Wi-Fi. I was then able to update successfully. The standard process may work fine on an iPhone, which I don’t have. I plugged it into my Volvo XC60 and plugged a Roku streaming stick into it, but I only ever saw the boot screen for the Roku and then it would just go to “No HDMI Signal”. This might be a resolution setting on the Roku as I’ve seen similar before when using it with an older TV. I switched to a Chromecast with Google TV, and it worked perfectly. I went for a drive and tested it while waiting to pick up my daughter. I tried live TV via my Plex Pass and despite the slightly glitchy network connection, the video and audio were pretty well in sync, and it was perfectly watchable. I haven’t tried Samsung Dex via my phone plugged in, but I’d think it would perform at least as well, if not way better. If I try it, I’ll post my results. I didn’t have super high hopes, but it seemed to work really well. Once the car starts, and you switch to Android Auto (if you have to switch sources on your car) you’ll just have a choice of Apple CarPlay/Android Auto or the HDMI input. One IMPORTANT thing to note… Your car will only recognize the device as Apple Car Play, but when your phone connects, it will be Android Auto if you have an Android device. It just uses the Apple Car Play protocol to send the signal to the car. Nav buttons on my steering wheel work the same as if my Android phone were directly connected, so no incompatibilities due to the car thinking it’s Apple CarPlay. Pretty happy with this so far. One star off for the less than convenient update process. An app for your phone to choose settings would have been nice. Also, the ability to set the device to default to Android Auto/CarPlay, HDMI or to ask which at boot would be a nice added setting. As it is, it just asks which at boot time.**Just a tip, if you use a streaming stick and you have a hotspot plan on your phone, if it’s a Samsung phone, you can go into settings and search for Modes and Routines, and create a new routine that activates your Wi-Fi Hotspot from your phone when Bluetooth connects to the AutoSky device, then set your streaming stick to connect to that Wi-Fi hotspot by default. The same can be accomplished with the Tasker app and maybe some other simpler automation apps for Android.

    Doesn’t work with 2020 Tucson
I tried this on my 2020 Tucson and couldn’t get it to work. I will continue to try with other devices. If I can use it on a tablet (hopefully connecting two tablets), then it may have a use yet.I see I’m not the only one that couldn’t get it to work with their car.

    Autosky adapter
I really wanted to enjoy this for my kids. I have a 2022 rav4 with carplay and when I received I had connected it and it keeps disconnecting. I asked for a replacement and I even bought new cables and the replacement does the same. The blue lights blink on and off and my screen reads hdmi disconnected when it comes back on there is no sound then sound comes back. It will play for a few minutes without disconnecting and just like that it will disconnect. Im frustrated and just confused why it seems not to do this when i watched the video on Tiktok but it keeps doing it to me. I have tried everything believe me. I am trying with my iPhone15plus and it’s just not staying connected.

    Auto TV Adapter… it works!
I had my doubts, but this thing really works. I hooked it up to the same USB port in my car that I connect my phone to, and it started CarPlay on it’s own, and I plugged a Roku stick into the HDMI port on the device and I was watching Amazon Prime in minutes. It’s a great little device for long trips for passengers or kids if you have them. I will say I put a show on for my 8 minute drive to work and I can see how it would be distracting for a driver, so I definitely would not suggest it there. But otherwise it’s a neat device. I did not try mirrroring my (android) phone, but only because I can see no purpose to it, my built in system does all those things already… and I’m driving, how much do I really need it to do? Anyway, great device, good price, I’d recommend if you have a purpose for it.

Could be just me, but this thing doesn’t seem to do anything
Could be that I just got a bad one, but I couldn’t get this unit to do anything, whether connected to a television or vehicle.I spent entriely too long trying different input devices, different output devices, and got nothing. The instructions are singularly lackingI’m done messing with the unit.

Finally, a Way to Escape “Infotainment” Hell! (Mostly)
Let’s be real, car “infotainment” systems are a joke. They’re slow, clunky, and about as entertaining as watching paint dry. So, when I stumbled upon this HDMI to Car Play/Android Auto adapter, I saw a glimmer of hope. The Good News:Freedom at Last! This adapter opened up a whole new world of entertainment in my car. I ditched the car’s pitiful built-in system and hooked up my trusty Fire Stick. Suddenly, I have access to a whole universe of entertainment – YouTube, Netflix, you name it!Versatility is Key: I can also mirror my iPhone to the screen, which is perfect for road trips. The Bad News:Cheap and Cheerful (Maybe Too Cheerful): This thing feels a bit like it was made in someone’s garage. The HDMI port is a bit of a struggle, and the whole thing feels a little… wobbly. I had to use an HDMI extender to get my Fire Stick to actually connect. No Thumb Drive Fun: Don’t even think about playing movies off a USB drive. This adapter isn’t that sophisticated.Overall:Despite its quirks, this adapter is a significant upgrade from my car’s pathetic built-in system. It’s not perfect, but it allows me to finally enjoy my drives without enduring the agony of “infotainment.”Pro Tip: Invest in a good quality HDMI cable to minimize connection issues. And maybe consider duct taping the whole thing to the console for extra security.I hope this review helps other frustrated drivers find a way to reclaim their sanity (and their entertainment) on the road!
