Very handy addition to 20V XR tool set
I was looking for a simple heat gun to use for simple heat shrink use. I already own a collection of 20V XR DeWalt batteries so this heat gun was a no brainer addition. Compared to my corded heat gun, this tool does not deliver the high heat (it is battery operated after all) output but it works just fine for its intended purpose. This tool is very effective for heat shrink purposes. I have also tried it with solder wire joint splice and there is sufficient heat to melt the solder and heat shrink the sleeve around it.This tool also makes it very easy to use a heat gun anywhere outside, or any remote location where access to AC power is problematic. You do need to keep in mind that since this is battery powered, your run time will be limited.

About 45 minute battery life on HIGH with a 5AH battery!
I primarily use this heat gun for 1″ blue and red shrink tubing. I have used it for smaller jobs, but the point of this review is that this heat gun is a MONSTER on the bigger stuff! It hasn’t disappointed yet! HIGHLY recommend this item -for me, it works EXACTLY as expected and handled every task I took on with it!

Hot
Heats up fast and gets hot but don’t hold to close unless you want it melted I personally used to defrost my drivers mirror other day it was so cold the mirror heat wasn’t even able to melt the ice on my mirror well I used to melt the ice used towel to clean it I could see again has a million different uses highly recommend over a flame torch

The DeWalt cordless heat gun makes heat!
The DeWalt cordless heat gun makes heat shrink & such a breeze. Builds heat quickly and it’s easy to operate. But it will definitely run thru your battery’s so much sure if the job is large to have more than one battery. I really like this heat gun. Value for money definitely. Works flawlessly. I recommend it if you are in the market for a heat gun.

A “hot” little item!
Nutshell: this tool WORKS AS ADVERTISED, PERIOD!I did find that the “HIgh (2)” setting is best for processing heat shrink (yes, at the “expense” of battery life). I can’t think of “profitable” uses for the “Low (1)” setting. With that typed, this tool is still VERY VALUABLE where you need “concentrated heat”, but don’t have AC power available for a corded heat gun.Note for “Jon S”: yes, the “trigger lock” is designed for RIGHT-HANDED people. However, it ** CAN ** be used by “lefties” – activate and hold the trigger with the “tip” of the index finger, slide your left hand FORWARD so the “base knuckle” is over the lock button, then “squeeze” so the “knuckle” presses the “lock button”. After that, re-adjust the hand so it “properly” holds the gun. Yes, it’s not a “natural” action, but it works and, with practice, will become “second-nature” (at least, until/if DeWalt chooses to re-design the button for “ambidextrous” use 😉 ).I ** DO INDEED ** recommend this tool for the “DeWalt 20V Universe” tool user… 🙂

A little bit disappointing. But it works and has a place.
This heat gun is very poor for being a Daywalt product. It does not have enough fan power if that makes sense. It gets hot but doesn’t blow enough. I use this product to heat shrink after soldering on boats. It makes it very simple so I don’t have to drag extension cords around the dock and risk shock.I would give it less than three stars if I didn’t have a purpose for it. But it is handy at times. Overall, I think it is overpriced for what it is. However, it is not that expensive if you can compare it to dealt ecosystem.

Convenient
It’s nice to not need to find an extension cord every time I need to use a heat gun now.

The DEWALT 20V Heat Gun is a game-changer for anyone who values portability and efficiency. Being cordless makes it incredibly convenient for working in tight or outdoor spaces where outlets aren’t easily accessible. It’s perfect for homeowner projects, whether you’re stripping paint, shrinking wrap, or loosening adhesives. While it’s excellent for light to medium-duty tasks, it might not be ideal for heavy-duty projects where a plug-in heat gun would provide slightly more power and longer continuous operation. However, for general household tasks, the portability and ease of use more than make up for that. Highly recommend for DIY enthusiasts who need a flexible, reliable tool.

Works great, used for heat shrink core ID’S within PLC.Brought 18v batteries separately and still produces required heat.

The blower is so slow and heat come soooo late. I am really dissapointed in Dewalt, what were they thinking when designing this?!?? For this application, i will still stick back to wired heat gun instead. This one will head head straight to the “Museum”
