Small is not for a 5 year old.
I think these are a deal. They are soft and comfortable and I would have kept them if they would have fit my 5 year old. I bought a size small hoping they would fit. My daughter is not thin, she is a bit fuller but not overweight. She is not short nor tall. She is in the middle but the size small were big on her. Maybe they would fit a 6 to 7 year old a lot better.

My daughter says they are ok
I bought these for my 10 year old daughter. She has an athletic build (that she gets from me). She is in the 90th % for her height and weight. For other shirts that I get for her I do go a little larger in size for length because she is growing fast so I think I over shot a bit on the size and should have gotten her maybe the 8-10 (medium). That being said I’m commenting on the quality and not size. I can deal with the larger size as my daughter can tuck the bottom comfortably in her pants, but my daughter says that it does not feel soft on her skin. The material is just blah and does not have a softness to it. My daughter say there is a comfort to them as far as they are definitely wearable under something for the winter months, but doesn’t have much stretch as she feels she could wear it out easily. They are good for what she needs them for so she will wear them cause she doesn’t mind them at all as for size I would recommend the exact size for your child almost maybe even a size down

I bought these for my granddaughters and they fit great. They will definitely be needed as the weather gets cooler for extra warmth. These are made of great quality not thin at all, there was no shrinking when I washed them., and they’re cute on them.

Terrible fit for a small child
I bought the size small. These shirts have a very weird shape. The tag is placed under the armpit instead of the back. This makes me feel it was not cut right. My 8 year old is very small and thin. These are way too big for her and the shape is very weird. It hangs below her chest and shows her goods! I do not recommend if you have a petite child.
